Tosheka Textile Visits India
The Tosheka textile project, which is an AECF grantee through the REACT competition, has been chosen by the International Trade Center (ITC) to receive a planning and exposure visit to Assa, India focused on Eri culture, weaving systems, textile production technology, use of modern equipment and export opportunities.
This visit was awarded to Tosheka and the project beneficiary, Lucy after a recent site visit by ITC that is reviewing projects throughout Africa. The ITC felt that the Tosheka project was “one of the best & most innovative textile projects in Africa.
Tosheka has become the first project licensed to commercially produce Eri silk in Kenya. Commercial silk production has now become a significant pillar in the Kenyan agricultural plan. Funding to restore the textile industry, Tosheka and their beneficiaries on the ground have been strategically positioned to further forward this initiative.
The Supporting India’s Trade Preferences for Africa (SITA) sponsorship for Lucy and our staff trainer will start early in November. The ITC staff will plan the trip so that Tosheka can receive the best possible training and exposure to suit their needs and those of their beneficiaries.
The ITC is working to Promote Intra-Regional Trade in East Africa by Building African Capacity for Trade (PACTII) with Supporting India’s Trade Preferences for Africa (SITA).
